Our autumn playlist
Welcome to our playlist of the perfect autumn songs. For us, such a playlist takes the edge off the depressing end of the summer and aids the romanticisation of the earlier nights and cooler mornings. Think cosy indie, folky, twangy vibes - some personal favs of mine.
- Alice
Eliza McLamb – "God Take Me Out of LA"
Kicking off the list is Eliza McLamb's "God Take Me Out of LA," a quintessential autumn song. Her voice, filled with yearning and longing, perfectly captures the desire to escape, fitting right in with the season’s newness and change. The timeless folk instrumentation and relatable themes make this track a beautiful, introspective ballad that resonates deeply.
MJ Lenderman – "Wristwatch"
Next up is MJ Lenderman's already acclaimed track "Wristwatch" from his album Manning Fireworks. With his signature twang and indie setup, Lenderman, inspired by the ridiculousness of figures like Andrew Tate, delivers a pointed, ironic, yet laid back tone. It’s an autumn staple.
Bleachers – "Rollercoaster"
Bleachers is one of those bands whose overall vibe I really like, even though their songs tend to blend together for me. Still, "Rollercoaster" stands out for its mellow, cosy feel. It's easy to listen to, gentle, and perfect for this list— it’s just what I'm looking for this time of year.
Bess Atwell – "More Than Science"
In classic Bess Atwell style, "More Than Science" features flowing melodies, evocative imagery, and effortless vocals. What always strikes me about Atwell’s work is how she turns simple ideas into beautifully crafted, clever lyrics. With a recent album and a new EP, she's been busy, and there's no shortage of good music to dive into.
Fontaines D.C. – "In The Modern World"
Something a bit different to finish off the playlist. Whilst I haven’t shut up about cosy, gentle, folky tracks, this time of year is also a time for new beginnings, excitement and optimism - new season and all that. That’s the role that this Fontaines number plays. From their new album “Romance”, this song has moodiness, grandeur and a beautifully building love story that I can’t get enough of. The rousing strings and driving guitars create the perfect backdrop for Chatten’s powerful vocals and the equally effective backing vocals. It’s a standout!
